This episode examines the long-standing influence of media on the construction and perception of Black identity across the globe. Historically, mainstream outlets in the United States and abroad have frequently disseminated dehumanizing stereotypes, though independent Black publications have consistently fought back with counter-narratives of excellence. The rise of social media has further complicated this dynamic by providing a digital stage for activism, while simultaneously allowing algorithms to amplify racial hostility and disinformation. Because American digital platforms dominate the global market, prejudiced tropes originating in the U.S. are often exported, affecting social policies and prejudices in other nations. Ultimately, while modern technology grants Black creators direct influence over their own stories, they must still navigate a landscape where systemic biases and structural inequities persist.
